What Is NEMLUVIO? Everything Patients Should Know

NEMLUVIO is the brand name for nemolizumab, a biologic medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients 12 years and older.

What Is Nemolizumab?

Nemolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-31 receptor A (IL-31RA). IL-31 is a cytokine strongly associated with the itch sensation in atopic dermatitis. By blocking IL-31 signaling, nemolizumab directly reduces the intensity of itching, one of the most debilitating symptoms of atopic dermatitis.

Who Is NEMLUVIO Approved For?

The FDA approved NEMLUVIO for adults and adolescents (12 years and older) with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis whose disease is not adequately controlled with topical therapies.

How Is NEMLUVIO Given?

NEMLUVIO is given as a subcutaneous injection every 4 weeks after an initial loading dose.

What Are the Benefits?

In clinical trials, nemolizumab significantly reduced itch scores and improved skin clearance measures such as EASI and IGA. Many patients reported meaningful improvement in sleep quality as a result of reduced nighttime itching.
